They said that if you are going to prepare for a special event, make it like a year or months ahead, not to be excited, I mean. And since I might be posting this late, but it's the only time that I will have because of the hectic schedule from school. I'm not that excited about our JS prom, but an early planning can be a really hard tied knot. It starts from the dress, shoes, make up, accessories, bags, hair, limo, skin, body, and last but not the least, dates. So here is a little insight on how to prepare for the most memorable life in high school.
The Skin
* Sleep, sleep, sleep!!! Your skin easily renews when you sleep. It gets rid of those saggy bags under the eyes and some darkening too. It will help you look fresh all night long, instead of looking like a 50 years old.
* Check for the dermatologist now, especially if you have unnatural stuff on your skin like blemish, rash, acne, freckles and scars. What ever they tell you, do it and stick to it. But if you're running low on the budget, grab some over the counter treatment.
* Drink 10+ glasses of water everyday. Well, not only water, but also some natural juice, smoothie and tea.
The Body
* Exercise 4-5 times a week. If you're borrowing a dress, estimate your body so that it can fit perfectly. And if you're going to sew up your own dress, maintain your weight so that it won't be adjusted in the last minute.
* Prevention is better than cure. Look at yourself, and stop being clumsy. Be conscious of bruises and wounds. If you can't help it, make sure that it's completely well looked over so that it won't scar, and will heal fast.
* East balance diet. What ever kind of diet you want to have or you are having now, be sure to choose those that are healthy. Fruits and vegetables makes you glow, while others give some other beauty benefits you might need for the night ahead.
The Dress
* Choose the dress you really want. If you're shy about something, like dark underarm or patchy legs, adopt a dress that will make you careless about those, like wearing a floor length gown or a gown with sheer sleeves.
* To avoid last minute adjusting, opt for a stringed gown rather than zippered. The strings can be adjusted to fit your body well and will look sexy at your back.
* Prom dresses are mostly the types if dresses that stood out during the night. It's design is accentuated at the front. Ruffles, petticoats, jems/beads/sequins, and something that is flowing are the most designs of the dresses. Try one that will look great at your skin tone and stood out of the rest.
The Shoes
* Remember that you can have some blisters on your shoes. The spots where it can wound you depends on the design of the shoes. Try to look up on those hard parts and the edges. Some plastics can give you blisters too. Be aware about the injuries to your feet. If you have one, use some Band Aid that so that it can cushion it.
* Your shoes should be on the right fit. We don't want some Cinderella-leaving-her-glass-shoes-on-the-stairs scene, don't we?
* Pick something that you like, yet something that goes with your dress well. If you want to walk on heels but don't know how, it's better to buy now and practice on it at home. Consider having flats too, since they are as comfy as your flip-flops.
The Make Up
* You can choose from doing it at home with friends, mom and aunt or do it in a salon with professional help. Consider the budget that you are having and your flexibility on what you're doing. If you know someone who is as good as a makeup artist in a runway, grab them!
* If you consider doing it at home, but the products that YOU will use, not the products anyone use, especially the face products. That is because you have different type and tone of skin than them, and hygiene too. Go in a market with wide variety of make up and don't be afraid to look, try and ask. Grab all the things you like and began removing it one by one, according to what you really need and want. At home, set the clock and create your look. If you are already contented with it, be sure you memorize the way it's applied to you. And check the watch, that's the time it took to make it, be sure to add it up on your preparation for the day.
* If you consider having a professional help, make an appointment in the salon. Don't be afraid to tell them what you want and what you don't want. Pressure squeezed the creativity juices out if people. Carry a copy of your favorite look from magazines or photos, and if you don't know what look is the one you like, carry the photo of your dress and let them suggest the look. Again, look at the time and be sure to add that up to your preparation time at the day (plus the time you will get there and out). If you like it, tell them you will have the same thing at the night, and give them some tip too, for the help.
The Hair
* When you're going to do your hair at home, consider the products that are not harmful to you and the environment. And be sure to ask for the product that will add volume, tame frizz, or protect you hair.
* Depending on the style, you may need some heated devices to have the look. It's always handy to have a hair dryer, a hair straightener, and a curling iron at hand. Be sure it's ceramic to avoid damaging you hair.
* If you opt for some natural looking hair, get treatment. The salon offers a wide variety of treatment depending on your hair. Ask you hair stylist about it.
* Rock your hair out! have some huge bows (Lady GaGa has one on her hair and it's made of....hair!!), some wild unnatural colors and some prints and extensions too. Tease it or poof it if you want, or have some Amy Winehouse hair if you like.
The Bags
* There are three types of bags you can actually in prom, wristlet, purse or a small handbag. Make sure your purse stand out from your outfit and will not be remembered as 'just another part of your dress'.
* The size is the one thing you have to consider. The things you are going to put in must not make the bag bulge. The common items are phone, comb, touch up, money/wallet, blotting paper, perfume, pins, and band aids. Get something with space but still cute.
* Consider the design of your bag, and the way you will hold it. Wristlet are fine even without holding it, but the types of purses that you will just hold is kind of a, unsafe. Remember that you have your phone and money inside it, be aware of where you leave it, or alas! don't leave it at all.
The Accessories
* It needs to be safe yet beautiful. Safe because you are are wearing, ahem, jewelry, gold and silver wares. Beautiful because it accentuate you clothes and adds glamour in hard to reach places.
* Budget! I know those icyies are really pretty, so is that gold and sliver stuffs, but what about other things. Some of the jewelries are so beautiful, it can be wore alone. Consider having those heirlooms too, or your mom or grandma's jewelry that they have been keeping in a chest out in the Caribbean.
* Don't stop there, grab something extraordinary, like some huge beaded necklace (why not?) or some hooped earrings. Some bring elegance, some shouts FUNKY!!! I'm going to grab some masquerade mask with feathers and everything, and gonna make some gloves too!!
The Date
* Sometimes, we chose and some sucky times, our parents choose, and most of the silly times, we have a hard time agreeing with everyone.
* When you already have a date, present them to your parents as your friend first. And when you can sneak in the topic about the prom, tell them that he's your date. at least your family already eased up. And if they're asking you if that is your date, tell them that you don't know, so you're not actually lying.
* And when your parents pick someone for you, leave it. For sure they will pick someone they know and trust. Think of it as a new friends you are willing to know.
And now that most things are solved, don't forget to have fun!!!
